Black River counted 87,701 residents at the 2022 census across 13 villages, and it has changed fast: Tamarin and the Black River bay attract international residents and second homes, Uniciti at Médine, between Flic en Flac, Cascavelle and Bambous, combines a university campus, homes and businesses under a Smart City certificate, and Le Morne, with its peninsula of hotels, is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural landscape.
